The World Hospital

Why Cameroon?

  • Cameroon has a population of approximately 18 million people, but has less than 3000 physicians.
  • The average life span is 42-years old.
  • There are currently no emergency rooms in the entire country. It is rare that patients with major illnesses are hospitalized.
  • Hospitals in Cameroon's cities lack proper medical equipment, trained specialists, and often have poor sanitation. Hospitals in rural regions of Cameroon are scarce, if not nonexistent. Therefore problems which could be easily treated such as breach births often have catastrophic results.
  • Diseases such as HIV/AIDS continue to spread.
  • Malaria runs rampant, accounting for 40% of all deaths among children under the age of five.
